Ultrasonic Time of Flight Flow Meters
Model FS-555 Ultrasonic Flowmeter
Model FS-595 Ultrasonic Flowmeter Kit
The Sparling Series 555 is a self-diagnosing third generation ultrasonic flow meter. Built-in diagnostics detect application problems, transducer and cable malfunctions and most circuit failures. Continued signal loss initiates a pre-selected output of either 0 or 100% of span.
Automatic zero options are unnecessary. If the pipe is empty, the S-555 will automatically indicate the preselected fail safe output. A built-in low flow cutoff inhibits output when the flow rate drops below 2% of full scale.
Field calibration is simple and straightforward. A 3-position switch is used to set the variables of meter zero, current output zero and span. Built-in LED's indicate proper meter zero. Current output zero (0 or 4 ma) and span are set using an external milliammeter or the optional built-in LCD rate indicator.
All transmitters are interchangeable. The S-555 has no VCO's to require selection to the pipe diameter. Spare parts stocking is simplified.

Sparling Model FS-595
Sensor Kit
The FS-595 kit contains all parts - transducers, mounting bosses, hardware, installation template and instructions - needed to install a Sparling transmissive ultrasonic liquid flowmeter sensor in an existing or under-construction pipeline.
A template quickly and accurately locates and centers transducer mounting holes while automatically compensating for deviation from nominal pipe diameter. Holes for transducers are round and straight, no difficult angles, drilled perpendicular to the tube. All critical angles and dimensions of the transducer mounts are precisely machined at the factory. Final alignment is performed with a 1/2" or 3/4" straight pipe (not included) slipped through the two transducer housings before welding.

Limitations
The flowmeters operating principle requires that high frequency
sound be reliably transmitted across the pipe. Liquid slurries
with excess solids or with entrained gases may block the
ultrasonic pulses. Ultrasonic flowmeters are not recommended for
the following liquids: primary sludge, mixed liquor, aerobically
digested sludge, dissolved air flotation thickened sludge and its
liquid phase, septic sludge, activated carbon sludge. Liquids
with entrained gases cannot be measured reliably.
